Don't do the CRIME; if you can't do the TIME!
They described him as a remorseless killer with an extensive juvenile criminal record, a judge today sentenced Cedric Darnell Cortez Burroughs to 50 years in prison for the 2011 shooting death of Darryl Casher in downtown.This shooting closed Club Atlantis down completely. It hasn't been opened since.
Judge Sarah Stewart told the Cedric.
“It’s not my place to forgive you. I know you asked for that,” “That’s not my job.”Assistant DA JoBeth Murphree said she was satisfied with the sentence. She had sought life in prison, but under the state’s parole rules, he would have been eligible for early release in 15 years either way.
Dianne Casher, the victim’s mother, offered a tearful plea for justice.
“I tried to wake him up, but I couldn’t,” she said, breaking down. “I knew he was gone.”
“Darryl went out that night to have a good time,” she said. “He wasn’t bothering anybody. He didn’t even know the defendant.”
Sources say: Cedric thought Casher was somebody else..
Cedric Burroughs apologized to the family with a handwriting letter;
“I know my words cannot bring Mr. Casher back, but I hope they can be used to comfort your pain.”
Strickland Youth Center, testified that Burroughs has 15 cases beginning in 2006 when he was 14. Juvenile court judges ordered two different psychological evaluations, anger management and 2 suspended sentences to a boot camp.
Also, Burroughs was charged with Drug Possession when he was out on BAIL for Murder.
We got a whole to Cedric's criminal records from 2007 to Present..
The shooting helped spark calls for a youth curfew. That measure ultimately passed the Mobile City Council, although it would not have prevented this slaying since Burroughs was 18 at the time.
