It is being called the biggest drug raid in recent history. That's what the Tuscaloosa Police Chief said about a slew of overnight arrests.

The West Alabama Narcotics Task Force arrested 74 people after a two month investigation. 61 are students at the University of Alabama. Some of the raids took place at dorms on campus.
Warrants were executed by the task force beginning at 4 a.m. with assistance from the Tuscaloosa County Sherriff’s Office, the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the Northport Police Department, the University of Alabama Police Department and the U.S. Marshal task force.
TPD Chief Steve Anderson said, “We want to send a clear message to anyone in the city who's thinking of dealing drugs or who might be dealing drugs that it’s not going to be tolerated. And if we discover who you are we are going to come after you.”

The 183 charges range from drug paraphernalia to possession of a controlled substance. The drugs police found were marijuana, LCD, ecstasy, mushrooms, cocaine, and a variety of pills. There were also three guns seized.
University President Dr. Judy Bonner said the students will receive sanctions up to and including expulsion.
